Blizzard: " World of Warcraft isn't designed to be free-to-play"
Blizzard tainment has no plans to develop World of Warcraft a free-to-play game. In an interview with P2Pah today at BlizzCon senior game producer Jason Hutchins said switching from paid to free was not an optimal design decision or at least that's how Blizzard considers it buy WoTLK Gold.
"We're really happy with our model of business we're using now that's been very successful. We've built a strong player base that we're excited with," Hutchins said. " World of Warcraft is not meant to be a game that is free to play. I think for games with free-to-play to be successful they must be designed that way from the beginning and we're still not there."
World of Warcraft currently has 7.6 million subscribers and is the largest subscription-based MMO on the market. Numerous competitors such as Lord of the Rings Online and Star Wars: The Old Republic began their lives in paid games before moving to the free-to-play model of business.
The Elder Scrolls Online will be released next year as a subscription-based MMO, while Sony has not yet made public whether EverQuest Next will carry an annual subscription fee or not.
